What is the GPD WIN Mini Ultra?
The GPD WIN Mini Ultra is an 8-inch clamshell handheld gaming computer from GPD, powered by Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme processor. It has a 1920×1200 120Hz VRR display, up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 56.01Wh battery and two 80Gbps USB4 v2.0 ports. It also supports GPD’s G1 and G2 eGPU docks.
The GPD WIN Mini Ultra is the first 8-inch, 120Hz clamshell in its range, and it steps up from the 7-inch screen of the WIN Mini 2025 to a larger 16:10 panel. If you are shopping for a portable gaming PC that folds down into a bag or large pocket, this is the biggest change to the WIN Mini line in some time. The details below are generally what we expect to see, but we may see some minor changes before the official announcement.

Intel Arc G3 Extreme: A Processor Named for Handhelds
GPD describes the Arc G3 Extreme as the first chip named for gaming handhelds, and it is built on Intel’s 18A process. It uses a 14-core, 14-thread hybrid design with two Performance cores at up to 4.7GHz, eight Efficiency cores at up to 3.4GHz and four Low-power Efficiency cores at up to 3.1GHz. Total SoC cache is 56.09MB, made up of 31.34MB for the CPU, 16.75MB for the GPU and 8MB of SoC system-level cache.
The power range runs from 15W to 45W, compared with 20–35W on the WIN Mini 2025. GPD says the new chip delivers an average gaming performance gain of 44% over Intel’s previous-generation Core Ultra 7 258V. That is a GPD figure, so we would treat it as a guide until independent testing arrives.
We recently reviewed the ONEXPLAYER 3 which features the same CPU and GPU, it had some great power efficiency versus performance.
Arc B390 Graphics, XeSS 3 and GPD’s 3DMark Figures
The integrated Intel Arc B390 brings Xe3 graphics to a GPD handheld for the first time. It has 12 Xe cores, which is 50% more than the 8 in the Core Ultra 7 258V, along with 12 hardware ray-tracing units running at up to 2.3GHz. It supports DirectX 12 Ultimate and hardware codecs for H.264, HEVC, AV1 and H.266.
XeSS 3 combines AI upscaling, multi-frame generation that can insert up to three generated frames, and Xe Low-Latency. GPD also lists Intel’s Intelligent Bias Control v3.5, which switches off the P-cores below 14W and hands that power to the GPU for up to 31% higher frame rates. Pre-compiled shaders and Game On driver support are intended to cut first-launch stutter.
In GPD’s own 3DMark testing, the WIN Mini Ultra scored 7,399 in Time Spy against 4,180 for the Core Ultra 7 258V. The Arc B390 GPU score was 6,936, compared with 4,342 for the Arc 140V. These are GPD internal measurements, and real-world results will vary with drivers, temperature and power settings.
An 8-inch 120Hz Display with VRR
GPD calls the screen the GlowScreen. It is an 8-inch 1920×1200 LTPS panel in a native landscape orientation, so games run without rotation workarounds. Brightness is rated at 575 nits, and the surface has an anti-glare finish with a 3H hard coat.
Variable refresh rate runs from 48Hz to 120Hz and supports VESA Adaptive-Sync and AMD FreeSync, with fixed 60Hz and 120Hz modes also available. DC dimming and 10-point touch are included. For anyone who wants a portable gaming computer with a more comfortable screen, the move from 7 inches at 500 nits to 8 inches at 575 nits is a meaningful step up.
Controls: Capacitive Sticks, Hall Triggers and a Full Keyboard
The WIN Mini Ultra uses capacitive mini-thumbsticks with 8,000Hz sampling, 2,000Hz polling, 4,000-level resolution and ±0.09° precision. Because there is no physical contact, GPD rates the sticks for more than 5 million cycles. The L3 and R3 buttons are recessed, and the right stick can act as a mouse, with LB and RB working as left and right buttons.
The triggers are linear Hall-effect units with 256 analogue steps and 0.1mm-class precision. Programmable L4 and R4 buttons can be mapped through WinControls. Dual linear motors offer three vibration levels, and a 6-axis BMI260 sensor handles motion aiming and emulator motion controls.
Below the screen sits a full QWERTY keyboard with metal-dome keys and a three-level white backlight that remembers its last setting. A PTP precision touchpad supports four-finger gestures, and a fingerprint reader in the power button supports Windows Hello. Together these make the device equally at home on a train as it is on a desk.
Dual USB4 v2.0 Ports and eGPU Support
Two full-function USB4 v2.0 ports each run at 80Gbps and support DisplayPort 2.1 and PD 3.1. The WIN Mini 2025 has a single 40Gbps USB4 port. GPD says the extra bandwidth allows asymmetric transfers of up to 120Gbps down and 40Gbps up, and that the ports can drive 8K displays.
That matters most for external graphics. The WIN Mini Ultra works with GPD’s optional GPD G1, which has a built-in 6700M XT mobile GPU, and the GPD G2 eGPU dock, which has a PCIe 5.0 ×16 slot and supports an RTX 5090. Plug one in at your desk and this mobile gaming PC becomes a far more capable desktop-class setup, then unplug it and take it with you.
Other connectivity includes a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port at 10Gbps, a 3.5mm headset jack, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. The microSD Express slot has a theoretical speed of 985MB/s and remains compatible with UHS-I cards.
Memory and Storage
The WIN Mini Ultra comes with 32GB or 64GB of dual-channel LPDDR5X-8533 memory. Storage uses a standard M.2 2280 slot that supports PCIe 5.0 ×4 and is backwards compatible. GPD fits a PCIe 4.0 SSD at the factory, in sizes from 512GB to 4TB, so you can upgrade later without changing the board.
170 TOPS of AI Compute
GPD quotes 170 TOPS of combined AI compute across the CPU (11 TOPS), NPU (46 TOPS) and GPU (113 TOPS), all in Int8. That is well above the 40 TOPS baseline for Windows 11 AI PCs. The NPU supports sparsity acceleration, and the software stack covers OpenVINO, WindowsML, DirectML, ONNX Runtime, WebNN and WebGPU.
GPD lists local chat with 7B–13B language models, local image generation, AI-assisted video editing and Windows Studio Effects among the intended uses. For a compact gaming PC, that adds a useful side as a small creative and productivity machine.
Battery, Charging and Cooling
The battery is 56.01Wh, up 26.6% from the 44.24Wh unit in the WIN Mini 2025. GPD says that, combined with the Arc G3 Extreme, battery life at the same in-game frame rate is nearly 50% longer than the WIN Mini 2025. It also quotes more than 11 hours in light games using its Long-battery Game Mode, but these are development-stage figures and retail results may differ.
Charging is 100W PD 3.0, and a charger is included. You can set a charging limit in the BIOS to protect long-term battery health.
Cooling uses GPD’s FrostWind design, with two second-generation turbo fans, four copper heat pipes and a high-volume side-blow exhaust. GPD says the fans run at 20% speed below 40°C and ramp up in 2% PWM steps above that, with noise rated under 30dB(A). Audio comes from 2×1W stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra.

The Ultra is physically larger than its predecessor, which is the trade-off for the bigger screen, bigger battery and extra cooling headroom. If portability matters more than screen size, our GPD WIN Mini 2025 review covers the smaller model in detail, and you can see it on the GPD WIN Mini 2025 product page.
