{"id":462,"date":"2014-11-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/droix.co.uk\/blogs\/bad-news-for-1channel-fans-in-uk\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T11:32:40","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T10:32:40","slug":"bad-news-for-1channel-fans-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/droix.net\/blogs\/en-ie\/bad-news-for-1channel-fans-in-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Bad news for 1Channel fans in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><div class=\"postContent\">\n<p><strong>High Court orders UK ISPs to block two streaming sites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UK Internet service providers &#91;ISPs] are being forced to block two unauthorised movie-streaming sites following a High Court ruling.\nThe \u201cBig Five\u201d ISPs, made up of BT, Sky including O2, Virgin Media, EE and TalkTalk, must block SolarMovie and Tubeplus from early December after High Court Judge Lord Justice Arnold agreed with rights owners that brought the case.\nA written verdict from the judge stated that \"viewed from the perspective of the user, the websites do in a very real sense make the content available to the public,\" after ruling they should be shuttered to UK users.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2013\/11\/14\/studios_win_movie_streaming_blocks_in_uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">The Register<\/a>\u00a0reports that the ruling is the first time that access to illegal streaming sites has been stopped as opposed to restricting access to torrent trackers and lockers, as has been the case in the past.\nCases against sites offering access to copyrighted content have become increasingly common in recent times with ISPs ordered to block five sites \u2013 Yify-Torrents, Project-Free TV, Primewire, Vodly and Watchfreemovies \u2013 in a case last month. Those sites must be blocked by the end of November and the list of sites has reached 25, including 13 torrent sites and 12 aggregators.\nThe High Court decision has been lauded by various groups representing the UK\u2019s creative economy such as actor\u2019s union Equity and indie producers group PACT.\n\u00a0\n\"Protecting producers\u2019 IP rights is vital to the continued growth and success of the independent television production sector.
