iMX6 & iMX6Q
Turn off your device and remove the power cable.
For an iMX6 (and iMX6Q), you’ll need to insert the match into the socket marked AV on the back of your iMX6, and keep pushing it in until you feel/hear a slight click. You’ll also find the switch hidden in the same place (AV Socket) for M8 models that have M8N printed on their label. Please read the Recovery Menu section below for how to proceed.
X7
Q7
On a Q7 device, look on the right hand side, behind the USB sockets. A biro is normally perfect for holding down the switch. Please read the Recovery Menu section below for how to proceed.
M6
If you have an M6 model, it is again on the right hand side behind the USB sockets, but you’ll need something sturdy, and thinner than most biro tips. I personally filed down a match stick (I prefer it to cocktail sticks as they are a bit more sturdy). Please read the Recovery Menu section below for how to proceed.
V9
If you have a V9 stick, check the end that has the HDMI socket. You should see on one side of the device there is a blue LED when the power is connected and the device is turned on. Below that, in the lower left corner, you’ll see another small hole. Insert a needle (CAREFULLY) to hold down the switch.Keeping the switch held down, reattach the power lead. Please read the Recovery Menu section below for how to proceed.
The Recovery Menu
If your menu is constantly scrolling, remove any USB dongles from the device. Navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and choose this option. You will be prompted to confirm your choice. Once confirmed, the system will clear the data and cache. You can ignore any messages that it “Cannot load volume /misc/” or similar.
When the factory reset has completed. You can choose the first option “Reboot system now” to reboot. Please note that the first reboot will take longer than usual as it is preparing the system for first use after a factory reset. Please leave it running for at least 20 minutes (usually takes around 5-10 minutes) until the homescreen reappears. Once on the homescreen, wait a further 5 minutes for the software to finish installing.

After 20 minutes have passed (assuming your WiFi/ethernet is functioning already), you can now sign into Google’s Play Store to allow auto-updates (see https://droidbox.co.uk/blog/googles-play-store-signing-in-and-auto-updates/ ).
Please note that on most iMX6 models, pressing the remote control’s OK button does not select any options, you’ll need to press the RETURN (go back) button to do this.
