How To Upgrade The MinisForum DMAF5 / UM250 / UM700 – A Device Teardown

Estimated reading time: 1 min

If you are looking to upgrade your MinisForum DMAF5, UM250, UM700, or whichever model they reuse the design for in the future, we at DroiX have put together a short guide to help you disassemble the unit and upgrade your device as soon as possible.

Step 1 – Remove the lid

To access the MinisForum mini PC, you first need to remove the lid of the unit.

All of these models feature a useful “click-lock” mechanism for the lid. Press down on the two front corners of the lid to release the clips from the locking mechanism. You can then gently remove the lid in its entirety.

To put it back, just press the corners down again.

Step 2 – Replacing Components

You will now be at the heart of the MinisForum DMAF5, UM250 or UM700. From here, you can upgrade and replace the components as you wish.

To remove the RAM, lightly pull the securing clips (circled in yellow) outward until the stick springs up by itself. You can then pull it out without resistance.

To replace the M.2 SSD (circled in red), loosen the screw at the end of the socket, and you can then insert/remove the M.2 SSD as you please.

The blue circle denotes the SATA cable, used to connect a 2.5-inch SSD or hard drive to the device. You can attach the drive to the inside of the lid via the included screws.

The green circle denotes the M.2 slot for the Wi-Fi chip. Without this, the device will not have any wireless functionality. The cables connected to it are antennae, which are essential for good signal quality.

Afterword

With the above in mind, you should now be able to upgrade or strip your Mini PC to your preferred configuration.
