February 2024 GPD G1 revision:
A new revision of the GPD G1 has been announced with some additions and improvements.
Power switching button
A physical power switching button has been added which will switch between Silent and Balanced mode. The Silent mode runs at 60W and runs at lower fan noise, and Balanced runs tat 100W but will be louder than Silent, around the levels of the current GPD G1.
Updated HDMI interface
The HDMI interface has been updated to v2.1 of the TMDS protocol. It supports up to 4K/120Hz output.
USB 4 port improvements
The USB 4 port will now support up to 65W power supply.
GPD G1 revision release date
Mass production and launch is expected at the end of February.
What is the GPD G1 portable eGPU?
The GPD G1 portable eGPU is a combined external GPU (eGPU) with traditional docking station ports. This will allow users to connect their devices such as the forthcoming GPD WIN Mini & GPD P4 MAX handheld gaming PC’s. Other models will also be supported such as the GPD WIN 4 & GPD WIN MAX 2.
Once connected it will transform the handheld into a fully featured desktop environment with mouse, keyboard, controller connections, output to multiple displays and more. The external GPU will take control over the iGPU and provide high end graphics performance rivaling many desktop PC’s.
What are the GPD G1 portable eGPU technical specifications?
It has been confirmed that the GPD G1 eGPU docking station will be using the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT graphics card. The 7600M XT has 32 Compute Units (CU) running up to 2300MHz with 8GB GDDR6 RAM at 120W TDP. It is around the same performance as a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 & 4060.

GPD G1 eGPU To Device Connectivity
It will have a direct PCIe OcuLink-2 compatible port which will be used with the forthcoming GPD WIN Mini and GPD P4 MAX. OCuLink is an alternative to using USB Thunderbolt and can offer speeds up to 16GB/s compared to Thunderbolt 4 at 5GB/s. For ‘backwards compatibility’ with other devices, there is high speed USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4.
G1 Dock Size
The dock is very portable and with a size of 8.07 x 4.3 x 1.14 inches (20.5 x 11.0 x 2.9 cm), it is smaller than a Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch.
What user ports will the GPD G1 portable dock have?
This is as yet unconfirmed and based on the images we have.
There will be a direct PCIe port and USB Type-C port on the front supporting high speed data transfer for video.
On the back are three USB 3 ports, a full size SD card reader, two DisplayPort and one HDMI port.
What power supply is supported?
The G1 portable eGPU dock will have a (possibly built-in) 240W GaN power supply which will be enough to power the dock and connected portable games console.
When will the GPD G1 portable eGPU be released?
There will be review samples available around May/June 2023 so we would expect the consumer version will be available shortly afterwards. You will be able to pre-order it at DroiX shortly.
How much will the GPD G1 cost?
The current price range is not finalised but the GPD G1 eGPU docking station will cost around $700/£645 not including any taxes. Once we have the final price, we will update here.
It is worth noting that is a very competitive price. When compared with the ASUS ROG XG eGPU dock which costs around $1,868/£1,506, it is over double the price, for a Nvidia GeForce 3080. The 3080 is around 11% average faster than the 3070 which the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT compares in performance to.
