GPD have announced an update to their popular GPD WIN Mini handheld gaming PC. Let’s find out what is new in the GPD WIN Mini 2024.
The CPU
The GPD Win Mini 2024 will now feature the latest AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and AMD Ryzen 5 8640U. The 8840U features 8 cores and 16 threads running up to 5.1Ghz. The GPU remains an AMD Radeon 780M with 12 cores running up to 2700Mhz.
There is not a massive increase in performance compared to the original 7840U/7640U processors but there are some extra features such as AI processing with AMD Ryzen AI. Whether or not that will be useful for us gamers is another story?
Goodbye Oculink
In a surprising announcement, GPD have decided to remove the Oculink port from the GPD WIN Mini 2024. The port will be replaced with a USB-A 3.2 port. Given that GPD were the first handhelds to feature Oculink support, even releasing their own GPU, we find it quite surprising they have removed OcuLink support.
The display
A big change announced for the GPD WIN Mini 2024 is a new display. According to the information it is the same screen as the ROG Ally which supports Variable Refresh Rate and AMD FreeSYNC. The display is 7″ 120Hz native landscape and features Anti-Reflective and Ant-Fingerprint surface. We will definitely be putting those two to the test in our review!
