The Beelink GT King TV box has received a lot of attention since its launch for its powerful S922X processor. I had to get one to see what all the fuss is about, does the GT King live up to hype of the fastest Android TV box in its price range?
The Beelink GT King features an AMLogic S922X Hexa-Core SoC processor, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB eMMC built in storage running on Android 9.0 Pie. There are two USB Type-A 3.0 ports and one USB Type-A 2.0 ports to connect USB devices to. There are plenty of ports for most users but do note that the included remote control and its dongle will use one of the USB ports. Connectivity is provided with 802.11 a/b/g/n, 2.4G/5G Dual Band WiFi, 1000M Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.1.
The case measures just 4.25 x 4.25 x 0.63 inches, and is a fairly inconspicuous Android Box with only a silver logo and engraved alien head style design on the top. That is until you power it up. Upon powering up, the alien’s eyes light up green, it is a cool effect and certainly one that stands out!
On to the performance of the device itself. After reading the S922X vs S905X2 benchmark article I knew I had to get one of these Android Box for TV. The results were very impressive with the GT King blowing the competition out of the water, doubling the others benchmarks results. While not as fast as the Nvidia Shield, it is certainly a lot cheaper and easier to set up!
As mentioned, the GT King runs on Android 9.0 Pie so you can be assured it will support the latest versions of apps if you are looking for an up to date Kodi Box or IPTV Box. Unlike the Nvidia Shield, apps do not have to be ‚sideloaded‘ and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or from other sources and simply downloaded from a website in the browser. I had no issues downloading apps that I used on my previous android streaming box.
After using the GT King Android Box for Streaming for around two weeks I found it overall to be much faster performing. Simple tasks like navigating menus or switching between channels was more responsive and I compared it side by side to double check, sure enough there was faster channel switching and navigation. Apps overall load and run faster, with apps such as Kodi with a build installed there was a more noticeable increase in performance compared to my old device which felt a bit sluggish after installing one. You will definitely see the benefits of a faster processor.
Network performance was perfectly fine. I have a 200Mb internet connection and speed tests all run as expected with respectable WiFi speeds with the router in the opposite side of the room and the full 200Mb on Ethernet.
I am a bit of retro gaming fan and installed a few emulators such as the PSP emulator PPSSPP. You definitely notice the increase in performance. All of the games I tried run much smoother and with a Bluetooth controller (I can recommend the iPega 9118) it was a much more enjoyable experience.
The GT King is a great android streaming box and easily run all the apps I could throw at it. Whether you are looking for an Android Box for streaming or are a retro gamer, the GT King is the best android box in this price range. With its fast processor, great internet capability and storage space, this is a genuine contender for Best Android Box for TV this year.
