This review is for the portable monitor with stylus support. We also have a portable monitor with Adobe RGB as well as a portable monitor with battery, and without.
Unboxing
We start our portable monitor with stylus review with a quick unboxing. Up first we have the portable monitor with stylus itself which we will show in more detail shortly. Note this is visibly different in design, and slightly larger in size to the other three models with a larger bezel at the bottom.
There is a user manual which explains all the functions in the menus and so on. Next there is the USB power supply and USB Type-C cable. We will include the correct adapter for your country when ordering.
And as this is the stylus supported model of the portable screen, it comes with an active stylus which we will show a little later in the review.
There is HDMI to mini HDMI cable, and two USB Type-C to USB Type-A cables.
Overview
There are a total four different models of monitor for laptop, we will briefly go over the differences as part of our portable monitor with stylus review. Followed by the other three which you can learn more about in our review here.
Stylus with internal rechargeable battery
This model of the portable monitor with stylus input. With a compatible stylus you can navigate windows, write, draw and paint as you would with a tablet for example. Excuse my drawing skills, I’m no Picasso 🙂
This model of the monitor for laptop also has a built in 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery. It is great for while travelling, not near a power source or do not wish to use your devices power. With the rechargeable battery you can use it anywhere with ease.
Adobe RGB with internal rechargeable battery
This model is the portable monitor with Adobe RGB and battery. With an Adobe RGB monitor, the colours on the monitor can match the colours in a print for example, allowing for improved soft proofing accuracy. It also has a built in 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery. With the rechargeable battery you can use it anywhere with ease.
Portable monitor for laptop model with internal rechargeable battery
This model of the portable monitor for laptop has a built in 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery with no Adobe RGB support. A portable monitor with battery is great for while travelling, not near a power source or do not wish to use your devices power.
Portable monitor with no internal rechargeable battery
This model does not feature a built-in battery. You will need to power the portable monitor with no battery via the USB, either from the included power supply or from your compatible device as we will show later.
Menus
We continue our portable monitor with stylus review with a look at the on screen menus. Navigating the menus of the device is a simple affair, achieved through the use of a switch that allows users to toggle through options and make selections. This mechanism is a common design found in most monitors, yet it’s an aspect that monitor for laptop reviews often overlook. Initially, the use of these controls may seem cumbersome. However, the portable monitor with stylus offers a pleasant surprise: after activating the switch, you have the option to switch to touchscreen controls. This feature provides a more intuitive and quick navigation experience.
The touchscreen functionality presents a more efficient and user-friendly alternative to the traditional side-mounted switch. Despite initial skepticism, the monitor’s design impressively anticipates user needs, allowing the touchscreen to operate without affecting or conflicting with the Windows desktop inputs. This careful design consideration ensures that the menu navigation is seamless and does not disrupt ongoing tasks, fulfilling user expectations for a smooth, integrated interaction with their device.
Using with devices
For this part of the portable monitors review we will show some example usages. All four models perform exactly the same in terms of the input types etc. In the images we are using the portable monitor with stylus model.
Handheld gaming PC
In this initial setup, a handheld gaming PC will demonstrate the monitor’s capability, where a solitary USB-C cable is employed for the dual purpose of powering the monitor and transmitting video data, offering a streamlined and convenient user experience. Furthermore, the monitor’s versatility is expanded by connecting a basic USB hub to its micro-USB port, which permits the additional use of peripherals such as a mouse and keyboard, enhancing functionality.
Mini PC and portable monitor for laptop
The portable monitor for laptop is frequently paired with a mini PC, laptop or ultrabook, but it’s just as capable when used with a laptop or a desktop PC. Connectivity is flexible; devices equipped with a USB Type-C port can connect in the manner previously illustrated, while those with only HDMI can utilize their output to link to the monitor’s mini HDMI input. This versatility makes the monitor a universal accessory for various computing setups.
For devices lacking a Type-C port, there’s still the option to use a USB Type-C to Type-A cable. This allows not only for the powering of the monitor but also for the full functionality of its touchscreen and stylus features. This adaptability proves to be particularly beneficial for users with older or more varied tech, ensuring they can still enjoy the modern convenience of touchscreen and stylus technology.
Retro Gaming Handhelds and Games Consoles
Our testing with various retro handheld models hasn’t been exhaustive, so we can’t assert compatibility across the board, but we anticipate no major issues. The Retroid Pocket 2S, for example, provides a clear 1080P output onto the portable screen. While it’s common for the pixel density of retro console games to struggle on larger displays, those with upscaling abilities or filter options can enhance visual quality to a certain degree.
Currently, our office setup doesn’t include gaming consoles like the Xbox or PlayStation; however, we have verified that the monitor is compatible with these devices, supporting their respective resolutions at performance levels up to 4K at 60Hz. This ensures that game enthusiasts can enjoy high-definition gaming with the assurance of our portable screen for laptop compatibility.
Speakers
The audio output of the device is quite clear for a range of media applications. Understandably, the bass response is minimal given the small size of the speakers. However, for everyday tasks and casual listening, these speakers are more than adequate.
For those interested in evaluating the audio quality, there are tests available in the videos above. While I maintain that such tests can’t truly replicate the actual sound experience, I acknowledge that there’s a demand for them, and thus, they are provided for reference in the video above.
Final thoughts on our portable monitor with stylus review
Our comprehensive portable monitor with stylus review concludes with some parting impressions. I find myself thoroughly impressed with their performance, having tested them across a multitude of devices without encountering a single compatibility issue. Every device I connected, from gaming consoles to smartphones, functioned flawlessly with the monitor for laptop.
The ease of use is a standout feature—there’s no complexity involved. The portable screen supports charging for other devices, provides HDMI connectivity, and offers touchscreen capabilities for older mini PCs that lack Type-C ports. We also tested it as a docking station for our Windows-based handhelds, and it performed without a hitch in every instance, affirming its reliability and user-friendly design.
Specialized versions of the portable screen for laptop cater to diverse professional needs. The stylus-compatible monitor proves invaluable for artists engaged in drawing, animation, or writing, allowing for precise interactions like conducting surveys with interactive menus. For color-critical work in industries like printing and photography, the version boasting Adobe RGB compatibility and an integrated battery offers the accuracy needed for color matching. Meanwhile, the standard model with a battery serves as an excellent companion for travelers looking to preserve their device’s power. For those seeking an affordable home setup, the battery-less variant is an ideal secondary screen option, keeping costs low without compromising utility.
The potential applications for a portable monitor are vast, extending far beyond what we’ve explored in our office setting. They can serve as interactive displays for customer orders in retail, provide aerial views for drone operators, offer real-time footage for videographers, and even function as convenient home monitoring systems.
