The Elephant in the Room: “Why do you need my ID?”
We understand. You just placed an order for the latest tech, you’re excited to receive it, and suddenly you get an email asking for a photo of your passport or driver’s license. It feels intrusive, and it’s definitely inconvenient. We want to be completely transparent about why this is happening.
Recently, the e-commerce world has seen a significant rise in sophisticated scam orders. Fraudsters use stolen credit card details to buy high-value items. In the past, to protect our business and the actual card owners, we had to bluntly block any order that looked even slightly suspicious—or refuse reasonable requests, like shipping to a different address than the billing address for a gift.
We realized this “block first, ask questions later” approach was hurting our genuine customers. We wanted a way to say “yes” to your orders safely, rather than just cancelling them.
The Solution: Secure Verification with Stripe Identity
To balance convenience with top-tier security, we have partnered with Stripe, one of the world’s leading financial infrastructure companies, to handle ID verification. This is the most important thing you need to know:
DROIX does not see, handle, or store your ID documents on our servers. Ever.
We have purposefully chosen a “hands-off” approach to ensure your most sensitive data remains secure and compliant with global privacy laws.
How Your Data Travels (and When It Is Deleted)
When an order is flagged for verification, here is the exact journey your information takes:
- The Trigger: Our system flags an order for review. We send you a secure link generated by Stripe.
- The Hand-Off: When you click that link, you are entering Stripe’s secure environment. You upload your ID directly to Stripe’s encrypted, bank-level security vaults. It completely bypasses DROIX servers.
- The Verdict: Stripe’s automated system analyzes the ID and sends us a simple “Pass” or “Fail” signal.
- The Unlock: If it passes, your order is instantly unlocked and slotted into the next shipping window.
- The Automatic Deletion: Stripe automatically and permanently deletes your ID images and data from their servers after 30 days.
Why keep it for 30 days?
We need this short window just in case a fraudulent chargeback occurs later. It allows Stripe to prove to the bank that the person making the purchase was indeed verified. Once that window closes, the data is gone.
Your Rights and Options
If your verification does not pass, our support team will reach out to find an alternative solution. Furthermore, you always have the right to request the immediate deletion of your verification data before the 30-day auto-timer ends. We can trigger this instantly through Stripe. However, please note that if we cannot verify the legitimacy of the purchase, we may have to cancel the order to prevent potential fraud.
Thank You for Your Patience
We deeply regret the inconvenience this causes some of our customers. We wish we lived in a world where this wasn’t necessary. But this step is currently the best tool we have to protect our business, prevent credit card fraud, and ensure we can keep shipping great products to genuine customers like you.
Thank you for trusting DROIX.
