An update on payments at DroiX

Stripe Radar example

In the continued interests of transparency at DroiX we would like to share an update on suspected fraudulent payments for orders that we have been increasingly receiving over recent months.

We have seen a sharp increase in the number of suspected fraudulent payments for orders at DroiX in recent months. This information is given to us by our payment processing providers including PayPal, Stripe and Stripe Radar. We are advised to contact the customer for additional information in order to prove they are the correct person and are authorised to make the payment.

Not all suspiciously flagged payments are fraudulent, legitimate orders can be flagged for a number of reasons. These can include:

  • The purchase was from a store never used before
  • The sum of money was larger than is normally spent
  • Something that is out of your usual spending habit.
  • Purchasing something from a different country, for example you live in the USA and order from us in the UK.

As a result we are now contacting any flagged payments to request proof of identification in order to proceed with their order. The email we send will contain the customer’s name provided on their order, and if possible, their order number.

Valid forms of proof of identification can include a copy of a Utility Bill, Bank Statement (covering a list of transactions), or photo ID such as a Passport, Governmental I.D. or Drivers License showing the address.

We understand that customers may not wish to provide this identification for reasons such as privacy. We do have a personal information policy in place and we can reassure you that your data will not be disclosed to any third parties.

If customers would like to cancel their order and use another payment method such as PayPal then we are happy to cancel it so you can re-order.

Fraudulent payments can financially cripple a business as well as the original owners of the card. We hope that you can understand our situation and the steps that we are taking to help prevent this. If you do have any questions regarding this you can contact us here or via email at [email protected] and we will be happy to respond.
