The Controller Service software is designed for the range of AYA NEO handhelds including AYA NEO 2021, AYA NEO Pro, and the forthcoming AYA NEO Next and AYA NEO Next Pro models. It allows you to use the AYA NEO’s built-in 6-axis gyroscope/accelerometer to motion control games!
How does the AYA NEO Controller Service software work?
The Controller Service software by Valkirie can be found on the GitHub page at https://github.com/Valkirie/ControllerService, the latest release is available here. It can emulate the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller and Sony DualShock 4 controller. The DualShock 4 controller supports motion controls, so choose this controller if you want to try them.
Profiles can be created for use with any software you have installed. For example you may want to change your AYA NEO Next gaming handheld to be seen with a Xbox 360 controller for the Xenia emulator. Or as a PS4 controller for RPCS3 PS3 emulator. You can create your own profiles based on the executable file (.exe) file that is currently focused on in Windows.
There are a few examples of profiles for different scenarios available to use as a basis for your own. Essentially you create a new profile, provide the location of the .exe file and then if you want motion controls for example. If you do get stuck there is a easy to follow guide on the GitHub Wiki here.
Using motion controls with emulators on the AYA NEO Next
Depending on the software you are using, you may need to configure it to use the motion controls. For example on the Yuzu emulator you need to let the emulator know that you have motion control capability. You can easily do this while setting up your controller similar to below.
To configure the motion controls, click on the Motion button at the bottom and then shake/move your AYA NEO Next Pro handheld gaming PC for a second or two. It will then recognise the motion and add it to the controls.
Not all games on Yuzu support motion controls, you can find a brief list of games to get you started here. If the motion is not recognised, do also check in the actual games settings in case you need to enable it.
It’s also great for PC games motion control with the AYA NEO Next Pro!
The motion controls are not just limited to consoles and current gaming handhelds. You can also add support for Windows PC games. An easy to follow guide can be found on the Wiki page here. It demonstrates how to use the software with Steam along with configuring games. It essentially transforms your AYA NEO handheld console with Steam Controller style input.
There are many PC games that are compatible with motion control such as Portal, Assetto Corsa and Roll Control. The Steam Store game info will have an icon or text on games that support it.
Is it worth using the AYA NEO Controller Service?
This is a definite yes! Despite the Controller Service software being a new release, we did not encounter any issues with the 6 axis controls or profiles. We had Yuzu up and running in just a few moments, and were controlling games like we were using a steering wheel.
This was very much the same for PC games on Steam, we tried Portal and Assetto Corsa which work amazingly well and was accurate! In addition, it is also useful for games that do not support ‘3rd party’ controllers very well, with this software you can pretend it is Xbox 360 or PS4 controller.
