Was ist eigentlich der Boxing Day?

Dies geschah zumeist in Form einer einfachen Box. Meistens enthielten diese Kisten Geld, manchmal aber auch allgemeinere Geschenke wie Kleidung oder Essensreste.
Ein paar hundert Jahre später ist der „Sinn“ des Feiertags etwas verworren. Dennoch wird er heute meist als zusätzlicher Ruhetag nach einem arbeitsreichen Weihnachtstag gefeiert.
In gewisser Weise ist der Boxing Day auch mit dem Schwarzen Freitag vergleichbar. Viele Einzelhändler bieten Ausverkäufe an, um Familien (die in dieser Zeit oft zusammen sind) dazu zu bewegen, das Weihnachtsgeld, das sie erhalten haben, für weitere Geschenke und Leckereien auszugeben.
