MANGMI Air Y and Air Y Pro Announced: A New Vertical Android Gaming Handheld Is on the Way

MANGMI Air Y & Air Y Pro Announced

What is the MANGMI Air Y?

The MANGMI Air Y is an upcoming vertical Android gaming handheld, announced alongside the MANGMI Air Y Pro. While the two models have not yet received a full technical breakdown, the early information points to a compact 4:3 device designed around classic retro gaming, Android titles, and streaming rather than a wide-screen format.

Both the MANGMI Air Y and Air Y Pro are set to use a 4.2-inch IPS touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a sharp 1280 × 960 resolution. That is a particularly natural fit for older console and arcade games, helping 4:3 content fill the screen without the large side borders often seen on 16:9 Android gaming handhelds.

The claimed 500-nit peak brightness should give the display useful visibility in brighter rooms, while 110% sRGB colour coverage suggests MANGMI is aiming for a vivid, punchy panel. Combined with the vertical layout, these early details make the Air Y family look like an interesting option for players who prefer a more traditional handheld shape.

MANGMI Air Y design and controls

The early design details give the range more personality than a standard retro-style handheld. Both models feature a front breathing-light logo, a metallic side wheel, contrasting buttons, and ergonomic curved shoulder buttons. These elements suggest MANGMI is putting as much emphasis on the in-hand feel and visual finish as it is on the screen specification.

The key difference revealed so far is the analogue-stick layout. The standard MANGMI Air Y has one left analogue stick, while the MANGMI Air Y Pro has two analogue sticks. That could make the Pro model the more flexible choice for dual-stick Android games, streaming, and emulation, while the standard model keeps a more traditional, simplified vertical-control layout.

There is still plenty to learn, including memory, storage, battery capacity, pricing, release timing, and the full control specification. One possible split is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 662 for the Air Y and Snapdragon 865 for the Air Y Pro. This would make sense on paper: MANGMI used the Snapdragon 662 in the MANGMI Air X and the more capable Snapdragon 865 in the larger MANGMI Pocket Max. However, neither processor has been confirmed for the Air Y range, so this should be treated as informed speculation rather than a final specification.

For now, the 4:3 display, vertical form factor, distinctive lighting and control layouts give the MANGMI Air Y and Air Y Pro a clear identity. We will be watching for further details over the coming days and will update this story as MANGMI reveals more about its new vertical gaming handhelds.
