The GPD Tool is a replacement for the MotionAssist software that has been included with GPD devices for many years. GPD Tool brings a new fresh interface with many additional functions and features to control your GPD handheld gaming PCs.

GPD Tool User Guide
You can click the Windows toolbar icon in the bottom right or press the keyboard combination CTRL + SHIFT + F3 to bring up the GPD Tool overlay
A quick run down over all the options you have.
TDP Settings
This section controls the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of your device. The range you can set it to will depend on which device you have.
You can use the slider to manually change the TDP to your preference. Or use the Low, Mid or High buttons to quickly select from some default parameters.
Performance
Enabling the performance setting requires RivaTuner to be installed. NOTE: You may need to install DirectX for this to work, you can download it here.
Once enable, you can use RivaTuner to show on screen information such as the Frames Per Second, CPU Temperatures etc.
FPSLock
Enabling the FPS Lock will lock the frame rate in games to 60 Frames Per Second (FPS). Disabling this setting (Default) will allow the game to run at its maximum FPS.
Fan Speed
By default the fan is set to Automatic. You can use the Default, Balance and Quiet shortcut buttons to change the fan speed profiles. You can also disable Auto and manually change the slider to your preferred speed.
Volume and Brightness Settings
These are self explanatory 🙂 You can move the slider to decrease/increase the volume and screen brightness settings respectively.
Shortcut Buttons
- Desktop – Will minimise all software and show the desktop
- Switch App – Brings up the Windows task switcher
- Screenshot – Saves a screenshot to your Photos “Screenshot” folder
- Force Quit – Choose software to close
- Keyboard – Brings up an on-screen keyboard
- Task Mgr – Brings up the Windows Task Manager
- Game Fridge – Freeze and Unfreze compatible software to improve performance
Settings
- Auto Start – Enable or disable the GPD Tool from launching when booting Windows
- Edge Gesture –
- Hotkey – Define a hotkey to bring up the GPD Tool Overlay
- Theme – Choose between three colour themes; Fresh Blue, Cyber Yellow and Vibe Purple
- CPU Turbo – Enable or disable Turbo Boost which improves performance with some games
- Language – By default it automatically selects based on the Windows language but you can manually change it here.
Back Button Configuration
By pressing the small GPD logo in the bottom left of the overlay (see image below) you can bring up the Back Button Configuration menu.
From here you can define what the back buttons, if your GPD handheld has them, for example a button combination.
FAQ
GPD Tool is not opening when I click on the shortcut icon
Check in the taskbar icons in the lower right area for the GPD Tool icon. Click on this icon and it will bring up the overlay.
We also noticed that from a fresh install, that there may be some required software not installed that GPD Tool relies on. We updated Windows through Windows Update and installed the latest AMD drivers, rebooted the device and GPD Tool started to work.
GPD Tool Performance setting cant be enabled
RivaTuner should install with GPD Tool, you can always download the latest version here. You will also need DirectX installed for it to work. You can download the DirectX package here which will have all previous versions included.
