Troubleshooting WiFi issues

If your WiFi is weak or not working properly there are several different methods that can be used to test the device, get a stronger signal or fix the WiFi if it is not working at all.

Weak Wifi

In order to test the internet download/upload speed and ping, you can use the Speedtest app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. You can then cross compare or use another device as a comparison.

Note:This can sometimes be an issue due to the broadband itself, so testing on multiple devices such as your PC or mobile phone would be a better method to test.

Besides the speeds, you can use a WiFi analyzer app to check the signal strength and based on that move the device into better position to get a stronger signal.

The signal may not be only determined by distance from the modem to the device, but also by the number of obstacles in between such as walls, floors or furniture. The recommended distance would be few meters away, ideally in the same room with as few obstacles in between as possible.

Another factor to include would be the devices WiFi receiver (is it dualband or singleband) and the signal that is sent is it 2.4GHz or 5GHz based. If the connection is significantly weaker than on other device, you may want to switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz or vise versa in order to test the connection.

Sometimes modems may not be compatible with the device, and in this case routers can be a good alternative. Wiring a router to modem and the displaying WiFi signal through usually solves most of the WiFi issues with different devices.

One of the best and easiest ways to determine if this is the issue would be to use a WiFi Hotspot. You can use your smartphone to create from your mobile device a WiFi hotspot/repeater, and afterwards use your device to connect to mobile as you would connect to any modem/router. Based on that you can determine whether the fault is WiFi on the device or a fault inside the modem.

WiFi not working

If the device that you have is not able to connect to any network, turns itself OFF or cuts OFF during use, you may want to apply several different methods in order to fix the problem.

1. Factory reset

This is a method that can be done through the Android menu or through recovery menu. It will wipe the device back to a clean slate, this is the first method to use in order to resolve the issue and usually this fixes the problem. You can follow our guide here to do this.

2. Replacing the firmware (SD card based method)

This method (depending on the device) will replace the firmware or install a new instance of it based on the firmware release that you had on the device and that is currently available (most recent). Firmware’s can be obtained through our forum, each device has its own category or if there is no guide on the forum at the moment by contacting us through the [email protected] email provided.

3. Complete re install of the firmware (PC based method)

This method is done via PC (Windows OS) and USB A to USB A both male ends cable. It does not include any use of UI through the device, so if there are other issues noted this method is the way to go. The firmware file is different from the SD card based method, and flashing the firmware is solely performed through the PC.

Check on the forum to see if you device has a firmware available.

If the specific device has only one procedure offered or does not display any feel free to contact us on [email protected] and we will be able to advise you accordingly. In order for us to easier resolve your request please make sure that inside email you provide clear description of the issue, your order ID so we can locate your order and what has been tried so far as a possible solution. By knowing this we will be able to resolve your request as soon as possible and you will be able use your device again in no time.
