Great news for fans of ultrabook PCs! The popular GPD Pocket 3 is undergoing a hardware refresh, boosting its performance with a new processor. While the sleek design and versatile features remain, the heart of the machine is getting a substantial upgrade.
Out with the Old, In with the New (and Faster!) CPU
The key change in this new revision is the CPU. The previous model featured the capable Intel Pentium Gold 7505 processor. GPD is now replacing this with the significantly more powerful Intel Core i3-1125G4.
What Does This Mean for Performance?
Let’s break down the difference:
- Cores & Threads: The Intel Pentium Gold 7505 is a dual-core, four-thread processor. The new Intel Core i3-1125G4 steps this up considerably to four cores and eight threads. This doubling of cores and threads translates directly into much better multitasking capabilities and improved performance in applications that can utilize multiple cores.
- Clock Speeds & Cache: The i3-1125G4 generally boasts higher base and boost clock speeds and double the L3 cache (8MB vs 4MB) compared to the Pentium 7505. This contributes to faster processing for demanding tasks.
- Integrated Graphics: The Core i3-1125G4 features Intel UHD Graphics Xe G4, a notable step up from the standard Intel UHD Graphics in the Pentium 7505. Expect smoother graphics performance, better media playback, and potentially improved capabilities for light gaming or emulation.
Overall, users upgrading to the new GPD Pocket 3 revision can expect a noticeably faster and more responsive experience, especially when running multiple applications or tackling more demanding workloads.
Everything Else You Love, Unchanged
Beyond the CPU upgrade, the GPD Pocket 3 retains the fantastic features that made it a favourite:
- Stunning Display: A vibrant 8-inch H-IPS touchscreen with a sharp 1920×1200 resolution.
- Ample Memory & Storage: A generous 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM for smooth multitasking and a speedy 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD for quick boot times and file access.
- Unique Modularity: The innovative modular port system remains, allowing you to swap in specialized modules like the GPD Pocket 3 KVM controller and RS-232 serial port interface (sold separately).
- Connectivity: A solid selection of ports for peripherals and accessories. These include Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth 5, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, USB 3 Type-A ports and a Thunderbolt 4 port.
