OTA For The T8 Family

Following quick on the heels of our recent updates for the DroidBOX® T8, T8-S and T8-S Plus there is a new unifying update available via the OTA Updates/Updater application.

Why unifying? Because once in place all three models mentioned above will have both Kodi 16.1 (Stable) and DBMC 16.2.1

Please note you will need up to 2Gb free space on your device. Please follow the steps at https://droidbox.co.uk/how-to/running-low-can-bring-you-down/ if you’re not sure where large (often temporary) files may be residing taking up space.

Please note that if you apply this update, you will need to reinstall any add-ons or skins you have installed in XBMC/Kodi/DBMC. If you do not want to do this, and are happy with your current firmware, there is NO need to apply this update. If you do want to proceed, and need a hand with add-ons in Kodi, our forum over at https://DroidBOXForums.com has both a lot of internal and linked to resources, as well as a community of people happy to help.

DroidBOX OTA Updater Updates

If you haven’t yet taken advantage of the previous OTA Updates for the T8 family, then the following advantages can be found over your existing version (if you’ve these previous updates in place then just DBMC and Kodi will change):

T8

The great DroidBOX® Control Centre is now included (see https://droidbox.co.uk/how-to/control-centre-fixing-various-kodi-spmc-dbmc-issues/ for more info).

The launcher itself has been tweaked to bring you more information regarding the status of your device. Please note the 3rd party weather forecast is not currently available, something we hope to see fixed soon. The DroidBOX® Market has also been updated, if you’ve not used it before please see https://droix.net/blogs/wordpress/droidbox-market/ .

Google Cast support has been added. If you’re using an Android or Apple phone/tablet you can cast YouTube videos with ease. Also supported is Google’s Chrome browser. For those that prefer the alternative interface, both the standard and Android TV YouTube applications are now pre-installed.

If you’ve not updated your DroidBOX® T8 device before, OR it was purchased before June 2015, please see https://droix.net/blogs/wordpress/t8-ota-update-has-arrived-april-2016/ .

T8-S and T8-S Plus

With the DroidBOX® Share update included, you will now be able to use your handheld device to control the T8-S and T8-S Plus in more ways, with more devices.

Should your mobile device of choice happen to be Lollipop (Android 5) based, then you’ll find the update allows Screen Mirroring, and finally if iOS 9 powers your pocket slab of silicon, you could well be delighted that AirPlay (where apps support it) will function with the DroidBOX® now.

If Google Cast (effectively turning your DroidBOX® into a Chromecast device) grabs your attention, then proceed to the OTA Update instructions for your DroidBOX® model link below, as you can now cast YouTube videos straight to your T8-S and T8-S Plus…

Also included are updates to DroidBOX® Control Centre and DroidBOX® Marketplace and the same improvements to the Launcher found in the T8 update.

Please see https://droix.net/blogs/wordpress/t8-s-and-t8-s-plus-owners-an-ota-update-is-ready/ for information on updating if you’ve not done this before.
