CK1 Mini PC

I liked the size of the mini PC, unfortunately for me it's performance was very poor due to what appears to be a faulty wifi adapter. Apart from the lack of performance due to the wifi, the sound of the fan is quite noticeable when it's spins up. Unit is being returned due to faulty wifi adapter causing extremely slow downloads, even though rx signal and upload speed is good.

Nice piece of kit

During lockdown the workload of my venerable 13-year old multi-boot desktop was beginning to show. Most of the load was being taken by a 3-year old i5-7200U dual-boot notebook, however being hunched over a moderately small screen for long periods was not to my liking. Using a separate monitor and keyboard/mouse was OK for a while but eventually the thought occurred that a separate Win10 mini pc would fit the bill for the non-numeric work (i.e. word processiing etc.). Hence a look around to see what was available and I chanced on the DroiX NVISEN Y-MU01 CK1. As well as fitting the bill it was also very competitively priced - so much so that I started to wonder where the catch was. Rest assured, I found no catch. Indeed, doing some of my (single thread) number-crunching on it using a Knoppix Live USB shows it to be about 25% faster than my notebook - which is just what I would expect for a i5-8265U processor. Furthermore, unlike others, I did not regard the fan's noise as distracting at any time (you should hear the notebook fan when i'm doing the number crunching!). All in all a very nice piece of kit that is attractively priced. Recommended! - W.

Nice product.

Delays to dispatch out to me. Product itself has a very nice feel to it. Couple of further negatives, I’ve noted that the WiFi range isn’t the best and also that the version of Microsoft office provided doesn’t give full versions of the office suite: excel, word. But overall happy.

CK1 - Excellent unit

I spent some time comparing the CK1 and CK2 units, which are quite similarly spec'ed but opted for the CK1 as a cost effective route to a four core machine. I'm very impressed: delivery was prompt, unit is well built and commissioning was a breeze. I added a secondary SSD in the expansion slot plus additional memory and am running as dual boot Windows/Linux. Performance is very good. I recommend both DroiX and the CK1 without reservation.

Great little machine. Super fast NVME, upgradability and portability.

Seriously impressed with this machine. The i5 handled everything i have thrown at it. Not surprising as it is a 4 core, 8 thread cpu that you don't normally find on mini pcs. I also upgraded the ram from 8gb to 16gb. THis is super simple to do - check out the various guides on droix. I also added an addiiotnal 500GB SSD - again very easy to achieve. For those wondering, you can also upgrade the NVME drive supplied with a higher capacity if you choose, although the 256Gb version i recieved as part of the build, is more than adequate for my needs.

Build quality is very good, this is metal, not cheap plastic. It feels great in your hands and looks even better on your desk. Its small, has plenty of IO ports and outputs 4k at 60hz without any slow down (windows use only).

BIOS options are good, boot up times are almost instant. Very, very impressed.

Final shout out to Droix for the super fast delivery. Was in my hand within 36 hours of ordering.

DroiX CK1 Intel NUC Mini PC with Win 10 PRO

Purchased the 1TB SSD 512GB machine, superb. This machine really flies, bots up in no time at all, the unit is so small that I'veounted it behind my monitor which along with a wireless mouse and keyboard makes for a tidy desk. Gone are the days of bulky noisy heat churning base units, the gamers can have those. Lovely product well worth the purchase price.

Zippy device, but not perfect

I opted for the faster i7 variant with 512gb storage.

What I like:
Good response to questions from the team at Droidbox.
Device was shipped quickly and securely
Looks nice. Silver metal suits my lounge.
Perfect size for hiding away.
Device is quick, runs productivity software without any issues. Can play 10 year old games at good resolutions.
Works and acts like a full fledged computer running Windows 10

What loses a star (I'd give 3.5 if it was an option):
Fan noise. Device cooling and fan speed are not BIOS or software options. Though, I was able to cut the fan kick-in by about 2/3 by playing with the Windows power management settings. I'll play around with some sound dampening material underneath the device. But was really hoping for a quieter device for the lounge. Suppose this is a trade off as I opted for something more powerful than a Celeron. Note, that it's NO noisier than a desktop PC. So if you're used to a full size PC, or laptop, or games console making a fan noise in your lounge, you'll probably not care.

Unique motherboard and processor set up: Makes it difficult to download compatible software. The motherboard make and model are DEFAULT STRING. And the processor, while an Intel chip, is flagged by CPU-Z as an engineering sample (ES). A Google for this suggests that these are chips meant to be used for development, rather than production. Again, a trade off for having a unique mini computer for a good price. But if you're used to being able to find BIOS and driver updates, you'll be out of luck.

Resuming from sleep: Occasionally the display doesn't come back on after waking the device from sleep. Hardly specific to this device, but it's irritating as it requires moving to the device, holding power-off for several seconds and then powering back on.

Would I buy again?
From Droidbox, definitely. Good selection of cool gadgets across a variety of platforms and they seem keen to make sure customers are happy.
Would I buy this particular gizmo again? I think I'd be looking for a more known make and model next time with a back catalogue of supporting software.

If you have any questions, come find me on the forums. I'll be happy to answer.
