AYANEO Air Technical Specifications | AYANEO Air vs GPD,ONEXPLAYER, Steam Deck

Below you can see a showdown between the AYANEO Air and the other PC Gaming Handhelds from this generation. AYANEO did not share with us the processor model, battery info and not even accurate weigh.

But we can safely assume that it is not based off the latest RDNA2 chip, and will sport the same Vega GPU as the other PC Gaming handhelds.

AYANEO Air Specs vs Steam Deck | GPD WIN 3 | ONEXPLAYER Mini

One main factor that we are still missing is the RRP, which is said to separate the AYANEO Air from the competition. It’s clear that PC Gaming Handhelds have one clear disadvantage against the Steam Deck, and that’s their price. GPD,AYANEO and One Netbook can’t match Valve’s manufacturing power, and it shows.

Whilst the Steam Deck starts at £349 for the 64GB version, we have seen handhelds go as high as £1200. Obviously there are other benefits to the ONEXPLAYER mini for example, such as an Intel 12th gen CPU (For which we’ll have a review soon – so keep an eye out on our YouTube channel), up to 2TB of high-speed NVMe Storage, the ability to run Windows out of the box, higher resolution display and so on.

Update 5th of May 2022: We now know the AYANEO OLED is named AYANEO Air.

We now also have a closer look at the back of the AYANEO Air, and its visible that the material is ABS (Plastic)

We can see the shoulder buttons come in two different colours, hinting at a gradient design.

Much to our delight, AYANEO have also posted some gaming results of the AYANEO Air on Twitter and we can see that this handheld gaming PC will play Cyberpunk 2077 at 30FPS on 13W. Below you can see what games can run on the AYANEO Air.

It is worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077’s performance is through AMD’s FSR. (Which upscales graphics, as opposed to you having to increase the quality within the game).

AYANEO is also hinting that the AYANEO Air will feature a much lower MSRP. No details have been made public yet, but AYANEO is advertising a Mid-May release.

In a recent video that was originally circulated on the Chinese website bilibili, Arthur Zhang teased the AYANEO Air, AYANEO’s latest Windows Gaming Handheld. Not long after, a translated video was posted on YouTube.

As the Gaming Handheld season is slowly approaching, we have seen news from One Netbook and GPD regarding upcoming devices, and it looks like AYANEO is not one to slow down.

In the video, which we will link below, AYANEO’s CEO Arthur Zhang talked about the current state of Windows Gaming Handhelds and how he envisions the AYANEO Air to fit in.

Currently, the only gaming handheld on the market with an OLED display is the Nintendo Switch OLED. AYANEO however, expects this to be a rising trend for this niche of gaming handhelds, and are betting heavily on it.

They are confident that the next generation of windows gaming handhelds should be portable, powerful and pack impressive displays.

We are well aware that portability can be achieved, and with the launch of the Steam Deck, we know that the RDNA2 chip is capable of handling games on the go

What is an OLED Display?

We’re going to keep it short here, but if you want more information you can check out the Wikipedia page.

For our purposes, the OLED Display (Or Organic Light Emitting Diode Displays) is a type of display, similar(and not so much) to LEDs.

OLED Displays bring deeper colours and darker blacks since when they display the colour black, they actually turn that portion of the display off. This results in saving some battery in a handheld.

What’s new in the AYANEO Air?

During the speech given by Arthur Zhang we did not get a lot of information, but it looks like AYANEO’s focus is portability, performance and that OLED display.

Below you can see (Or not) the AYANEO Air compared to the Steam Deck, and we can get a glimpse of the smaller form-factor.

With the smaller form-factor, we’re also getting a lighter handheld. Teased on Twitter by Arthur we saw that the AYANEO Air is lighter than a Venti Latte from Starbucks

At the end of the video, AYANEO CEO Arthur Zhang mentioned a product announcement in May, which should tell us more about the new AYANEO OLED.
