ANBERNIC RG351V Retro Gaming Handheld

This was my first purchase of a retro handheld of any sort and while I had to RMA the first one due to it misbehaving, my replacement came very quickly from Droix who easily have the best customer service I've ever had.

As for the device itself, it's an emulation power-house in a nostalgic gameboy style shell. It goes above and beyond anything I could have imagined. I couldn't believe this little emulation system can run PS1 games at full speed for example and they look absolutely stunning on the IPS screen.

It's just a comfy piece of hardware, it's re-ignited the retro side of me and I'm having an absolute blast.

Droix have made this an amazing purchase with their stellar customer support and care. I'd definitely buy from them again.

ive tried one of anbernic earlier models and been a noob found it a little daunting and wasnt to impressed with screen res and interface,
this however is a different experience altogether ,,the screen is bright and clear and there are numerous options to tweak it etc
the unit has a nice feel and is very comfy in your hand and doesnt feel light and cheap
the included sd card has enough on it to get you started but youll probably upgrade and do your own bits with it.
the only issue i had was connecting to the network which i was doing through the emu software...i only managed to connect using the retroarc settings and have been scraping loads of stuff..
to exit games etc just press down on the bottom left toggle d pad and press f
it takes a bit of time to get it right but you do manage to do it second nature after a bit of practice
the sound is superb too,,

I was pleasantly surprised by the fit and finish of this device. The DPAD is nice and buttons have the right feel and the plastic seems high quality however the knockout feature on this is the screen. Games look vibrant and sharp.
The standard os is usable but I suggest updating to one of the custom firmwares to access more features and allow more scaling options to make the games fit perfectly. Performance is excellent for most 8bit and 16 bit consoles and earlier arcade games up to about CPS3 but more difficult consoles to emulate such as the N64 can struggle to stay smooth although you can tweak to eke out a bit more performance. That being said PSX is excellent in my experience. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, I came from using a GPI Retroflag case and this outperforms it in every aspect. I would say it's one of the best options out there.

Absolutely amazing little device! have been tempted by something like this for years, and watching loads of reviews over the last month I decided on this as it seemed to be the best specs in this form factor, and ready to go out of the box.

And it was exactly that! Ready to play with no faffing, downloads or updates, and a huge range of games.

There is a ton of settings and customisations you can do, but you absolutely don’t need to. So it ticks all the boxes for people who just want to pick up and play, or those who want to delve in and customise everything.

So chuffed with this, fells super solid, controls, buttons and the control stick all work great, solid sound and amazing screen. The UI is really slick for different consoles and games, boot and loading time is mega quick too. And USBC! So nice to have a device like this that uses modern usb connections for once.

All in, can’t recommend highly enough, and it was delivered in 48hrs as well, thanks!

In short, if you’re thinking about a retro handheld, and you like the gameboy vertical layout, just get it, its an amazing device!

Oh boy. Where do I start. As a user of the widescreen 351P version, I never was very happy with the screen. As we all know retro games should be played in a 4:3 aspect ratio screen. The Anbernic 351V screen is the same size. However, it looks much taller that the RG351P screen. On top of that the screen resolution of this device is 640 by 480 pixels. witch result in a crispy clear display with possibilities to apply retro filters like scanlines and CRT effects with an integer scaled original image. That means pixels are not stretched. This is why I fell in love with the Anbernic RG351V.

This devices comes with a build in wifi that gives the opportunity to download screenshots and even videos to pimp up the game selection application. Speaking of witch. it is highly recommended downloading EmuElec 351V. This is a frontend (game selection and configuring interface) developed by the community to get the most out of the Anbernic RG351V.

Unfortunately the analog volume dial did not came to the 351V. You have to deal with 2 buttons.
The other buttons are super nice though. A noticeable D-pad pivot and comfortable R, R1, L, R1 clicky buttons. Nothing to complain about.

Emulation quality is top notch for 8 and 16 bit systems and for CPS1, 2 and NEO GEO.All 60FPS (no exception. I tested it). For Arcade games, most of them work like a charm but sometimes you do need to fiddle around a bit with emulator selections and gamesets to get a perfect performance. Not hard at all, but expect to be busy for a few hours when you have a large collection of Arcade games.

Note that 3D games performances on the RG351V are unreliable to say the least. This Thing is a 2D monster.

All and all I have to say this device covers the most needs for portable retro gamers.
The P version is gaining dust since I got the RG351V
