The Retroid Pocket Flip is a high-performance retro gaming handheld that offers a modern design with top-of-the-line hardware and features. This clamshell design handheld offers superior protection against scratches and bumps while travelling, making it a durable and reliable option for gamers on-the-go. 

Clamshell design in a variety of themed colours 

The Retroid Pocket Flip measures 5.4 x 3.2 x 0.98 in (13.9 x 8.2 x 2.5 cm) and weighs just 270g making it very portable. The clamshell design provides excellent protection while not in use, making it perfect for throwing in a bag or carrying in a pocket. The retro gaming handheld is available in Sport Red, Black, 16Bit US, Indigo, and Watermelon. 

Eight core ARM Cortex CPU for powerful performance 

The Retroid Pocket Flip boasts an ARM Cortex 2x A75 @ 2.0 Ghz and 6x A55 @ 2.0 combined for high performance eight-core processing, making it faster and more responsive than most retro handhelds in the market. Its Mali G52 MC2 @ 850Mhz also provides fast graphics processing for gaming on.  

High-speed RAM and Storage options 

The Retroid Pocket Flip has 4GB of fast LPDDR4x RAM @ 1866Mhz and 128GB of high-speed eMMC storage, which can be further increased via a micro SD card slot if required. This means that you can store more games and have a smoother gaming experience on the retro handheld emulator. 

Pixel perfect controls 

The Retroid Pocket Flip has dual hall effect sliders for improved accuracy and less wear and tear than traditional mechanical parts for 3D gaming. Its classic D-Pad is comfortable and responsive for pixel-perfect movement, and its buttons are double-injected moulded, improving the lifespan of the ABXY logos that will not chip or fade after use. The retro handheld emulator also has a high-quality 4.7” touchscreen display with a resolution of 750×1334. It has an excellent 450 nits backlight for gaming wherever you are.

The Retroid Pocket Flip has high-speed WiFi 5 2.4G / 5G 802.11 b/g/n/ac for updating the Android 11 apps and playing multiplayer games. Its Bluetooth 5.0 allows connectivity with high-speed peripherals, and its USB Type-C port provides fast charging of the handheld gaming console’s 5000mAh battery. Moreover, it has a mini-HDMI output to connect and play on your TV or monitor at 720P resolution.

Compact, powerful and convenient!

I haven't been using this device for very long but I've put a lot of time into it since I got it.
I've tried a variety of games and emulators; Saturn works great, I've managed to get some of my favourite PS2 and Gamecube games running, as well as various android games; roblox because it's easy to test, king of fighters 2012, morrowind (tes3mp and OMW) as well as Mdickie's Wrestling Empire.

All of these games run great, and I am thoroughly impressed with performance.
The battery life is equally impressive, easily lasting more hours of gameplay than I can realistically fit into a single day.

So far, I haven't seen anything to suggest the hinge crack problem and I hope I never have that problem.
The device is relatively comfortable but I find it a little bit hard to hold the console the way I would hold a controller, due to there being nowhere to rest my index fingers. (the entire back of the console is occupied by the triggers and bumpers)

Even the audio quality is outstanding - miles ahead of the likes of Anbernic's devices. When you hold the device right, the speakers are loud and full. The headphone jack is clean and I hear no distortion or noise even with my most sensitive of earbuds.

Last thing I'll mention is the controls. I love these slide sticks, they feel great - much better than small "proper" sticks like on the switch or the vita.
The face buttons feel nice and responsive, with a clear actuation point.
The only thing I'd have liked to see improved upon is the d-pad, it's the typical nintendo style d-pad which is my least favourite for any type of game. Nearly impossible to play fighting games with this d-pad, sadly.

All in all, I am more than pleased with my purchase - DroiX's service was excellent, the packaging was good and of course, the device itself I absolutely adore. I can't recommend it enough for anyone who's looking for a device with a more convenient form factor.

Brilliant

I originally bought this to replace my Anbernic RG280V with something more powerful, has android and is just as portable. It does this and more - the support for Wii games was a pleasant surprise with the majority of the games working well. The more demanding games I don't mind missing at all (theres too much that works well already!).

There are some niggles that I think YouTube videos and written reviews have mentioned that I've not really noticed :-
- The hinge may be loose or even break in the wrong hands but honestly its been locked in position quite well when I've been using it.
- The L1 and R1 buttons seem quite narrow when the screen is fully open but I have slim fingers.
- The buttons seem hard to push down fully but I just push harder, they also seem to been loosening a bit.
- Yes its fiddly to setup but there are guides to walk you through the better emulators and launchers available.

There are some features that I wasn't expecting as well :-
- Gamepad support is great with Retroids version of Android and the physical buttons will more than likely be supported. If they aren't theres Retroids utility software which is likely to solve things (I haven't needed to use it yet!).
- The extra meta buttons are a great idea and come in handy when mapping the controls. Some software like Dolphin even automaps these keys to sensible choices!
- The addition of a basic FM radio and music app is a great idea when I'm not gaming as I can now use this with headphones as a second device whilst travelling, walking, etc.
- Its quite thick but otherwise small compared to the likes of a Switch or a Switch Lite (probably a Pocket 3, 3+, 4 or 4 Pro) and easily fits in a pocket and because its a clamshell it doesn't need a case, which makes it even smaller.

All in all its a brilliant handheld I'll be playing on for a long while. I just hope that Retroid make a Flip 2 as there are one or two games that work well on the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro that are missing on this one.

Looks great but a bit tricky to set up

The Pocket Flip looks a great piece of kit but is a bit tricky to set up (for a relative novice like me at least). That said, I bought it as a bit of a winter nights project so I’ll look forward to learning how to get the most out of it! These are very much my first impressions!
